How Collaboration Shapes Stronger Game Campaigns
Episode Description:
Many studios treat collaboration as a checkbox, handing off assets, approving plans, and expecting results. But the truth is, campaigns thrive or fail on the strength of the relationships behind them.
In this episode, we unpack the real mechanics of effective partnerships in game marketing. From trust and transparency to managing creative disagreements, you’ll hear how aligned teams turn campaigns into momentum-builders, and how misaligned ones fall short.
Q?Box Round Answers
What was your childhood favorite game?
I was really into Atari’s Warlords. In junior high school I also traded my comic book collection to a classmate for his Commodore 64 and a box full of bootlegged C64 games. I was hooked. Seven Cities of Gold, M.U.L.E., Lords of Conquest, Defender of the Crown, Elite, and battle-chess game Archon were among my very favorites that fueled a lifetime of gaming passion for me.
What’s the most common mistake you see companies make in the industry with their businesses?
There are many, but the most common one is to think too late about how you’re going to bring the game to market and speaking with an agency weeks or a month before you need outreach.
What game are you playing now?
I have pretty solid ADHD, so I play Madden (always the Packers), started playing Bloodlines 2 (we worked on the VTMV5 tabletop game with White Wolf, so have a soft spot for their games), and recently delved into The Outer World 2 and Ghost of Yotei.
TIPS and ADVICE
We covered quite a bit today. Could you list 3 suggestions or tips you would recommend to indie devs based on our discussion?
- Start thinking about how you’re going to market your game long before development is complete.
- Find the right agency that will work with your expectations
- Don’t let promotion of your game be an afterthought; you can’t do everything yourself
